Promoting Trust in Auditing: Balancing Truth with Accountability

We cannot do it alone; we cannot do it without you

This is not a book to skim. It is a book to study — an edifying one.
Why Should You Attend?
This conference reaffirms a simple but vital truth: audit remains a trustworthy anchor in an imperfect world. Across history, societies have relied on accountants and auditors to safeguard assets, guide policy, and sustain prosperity. Even in “confusion of confusions” moments of crisis, sound accounting has steadied markets, while poor accounting has unleashed disorder and harm.
Advocating FOR Audit Integrity

Audit is Trustworthy

Our mission is to affirm the essential role of audit, advocating for its honor while recognizing areas for improvement.
We firmly believe that audit is trustworthy despite its imperfections. This belief is based on incontrovertible evidence of the utility of audit in society. Therefore, we will advocate for the accounting and auditing profession and professionals by reminding society of the storied role of accounting in human civilization and that it is undeserving of most of the criticisms railed against it. Through various initiatives, we intend to promote and support the truth that “Audit is Trustworthy.” To be sure, this is not audit failure denialism. Audits fail, yes, even “good accountants do bad audits.” But that does not nullify the fundamental utility of audit as media sensationalizing of audit failures suggest. Such sensationalizing amounts to audit utility denialism.

Awareness, Influence, Change

Shifting Perceptions of Auditing

We will raise awareness, influence public opinion, and ultimately bring about authentic change in public attitude towards auditing and its sublime affordances to show the contrasts to audit failures.
Society needs accounting and audit, in all circumstances. Their affordances have become obligatory for a functioning society.
More knowledge, not less, is needed to make strong auditors. The complexity of modern society dictates consilience in the skillset of auditors.
Auditors are imperfect just like others, yet imperfect accountants do trustworthy audit.
Blame and shame will not do it. Shared vision and learning attitude will.
Some of the changes will be generational, society needs to be patient and confident.
Empowering Voices for Audit

Our goal is to stimulate and amplify individual confident voices of responsible advocacy for accounting and auditing. We will do that through enlightenment programs that will inform the public with evident demonstration of the heroic role of auditing in our civilization.

Championing the Value of Auditors

It is important “to speak out on behalf of one of the most underappreciated groups” in the world – accountants and auditors – to make their value in society more visible, and to champion and advance their rights and interests. Indeed, it is in the public interest to advocate for audit in order to forfend and preserve the sanctity of its role in society.

Society Relies on the Trustworthiness of Audit

“… the patron of a calling which involves the use of highly technical knowledge, since he is not qualified to judge the worth of the services he receives, is in a position of extreme dependence (and requires assurance) of the trustworthiness of the practitioners he engages,”

(Ross, 1918).

Accountability Governs the Human Progress

“… accountancy is … one of the manifestations of civilization and … the laws that govern the history of accounting are those which govern the progress of the human race,”

(Arthur H. Woolf, 1912).
